Hon. Emmanuel Ukpong-udo, the member representing Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, has fulfilled another campaign promise with the successful construction and commissioning of the 1.3km Usung Obo Road in Ikono Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State.
The road project, which was officially inaugurated on Friday, January 24, 2025, is expected to significantly improve connectivity within the area, ease transportation, and boost economic activities.
The commissioning event drew an impressive turnout of community members, political stakeholders, and traditional rulers.
Equipped with modern features such as a dual drainage system to prevent flooding and solar-powered streetlights for enhanced security and visibility at night, the Usung Obo Road highlights the lawmaker’s commitment to sustainable development and improving the quality of life in his constituency.
Speaking at the event, Ukpong-udo while enumerating the importance of the road project, stated that the project represents his commitment and determination to build a constituency that works for everyone not minding party affiliation.
“This road is not just about infrastructure; it is about transforming lives and creating opportunities. It represents our determination to build a constituency that works for everyone.” – he said.
The federal legislator expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for providing the resources necessary for the project and acknowledged the collaborative support of Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, and Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, for their roles in facilitating developmental initiatives across party lines.
In his remarks, the paramount ruler of Ikono LGA, HRM. Edidem Etim Nnanga Itang, praised Ukpong-udo’s leadership and vision. He lauded the project as a transformative milestone for the community, and thanked Ukpong Udo for his foresight and people-centric leadership.
Also speaking, Pastor Imo Usung, a resident of Ini Local Government Area, described the road as a solution to longstanding transportation challenges that has been mitigated by the federal lawmaker.
Usung stated further that before the road commissioning, that the lawmaker has other notable contributions to the constituency, which include, the donation of N250 million worth of Christmas packages to constituents in December 2024 and the recent commissioning of a classroom block at St. Mary’s Secondary School, Ikot Nseyen.
According to residents, the Usung Obo Road was an eyesore before Rep Ukpong-udo came to the rescue.
With these initiatives, Ukpong-udo continues to solidify his reputation as a people-focused leader delivering on promises and championing the development of the Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony, was performed by Air Vice Marshal Akpasa.
Community leaders and dignitaries, including Hon. Asuquo Nana Udo, the Member Representing Ikono/Ini State Constituency was also present at the event.
