Senator Godswill Akpabio has firmly denied any involvement with election campaign posters suggesting a partnership with Mallam Nasir El-Rufai for the 2027 presidential election. He emphasized that he has no intention of challenging President Bola Tinubu.
In a statement by Hon Eseme Eyiboh, Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Akpabio expressed his satisfaction with his current role as President of the Senate, supporting the administration’s legislative agenda.
He stated:
“The office of the President of the Senate has been alerted to posters in parts of Kaduna linking the President of the Senate to an alleged El-Rufai 2027 political ambition.
“We unequivocally clarify that Senator Godswill Akpabio has no intention of running for president in 2027, nor is he considering a joint presidential ticket with Mallam Nasir El-Rufai or any other individual.
“This is the work of mischief makers and fifth columnists aiming to tarnish the President’s loyalists. The claim is baseless and deceitful.
“Senator Akpabio is dedicated to collaborating and providing legislative support to President Bola Tinubu to revitalize Nigeria and restore its global standing. Since June 13, 2023, Senate President Akpabio, as the Chairman of the National Assembly, has focused on this mission and has never contemplated running for President in 2027 or any other time.
“It is embarrassing to link Senate President Godswill Akpabio to an insipid presidential ambition when a competent leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, is effectively leading with his renewed Hope Agenda.
“We urge the public to disregard this malicious attempt to distract Nigerians from the Senate’s positive efforts under Senator Akpabio’s leadership. We also call on Security Agencies to investigate and identify the promoters of this deceptive campaign.”
ThePlenary reports that Akpabio previously contested the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress, APC, with President Tinubu but withdrew in his favor at the convention, further dismissing the notion of any plot with El-Rufai.
