The Nigerian Senate has confirmed John Agama as the Director General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), along with Samiya Usman, Abimbola Ajomale, and Frana Chukuogor as full-time commissioners of SEC. The confirmation followed a thorough review of their qualifications and responses during the screening process, as highlighted by Senator Osita Izunaso, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Capital Market.
Additionally, Hon. Kayode Oladele’s confirmation as a member of the Federal Character Commission (FCC) was endorsed by the Senate, with commendations for his impressive performance during the assessment by the Committee on Federal Character and Intergovernmental Affairs.
In legislative action, the Senate passed the “National Anti-Doping Bill 2024,” aimed at curbing the use of performance-enhancing substances by Nigerian athletes. The bill received widespread support from Senators, reflecting the commitment to ethical sports practices.
Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin oversaw the session, approving the bill for the third reading after a voice vote.
